محافظة شبوة
الموقع : تقع محافظة شبوة شرق العاصمة صنعاء ، وتبعد عنها بمسافة ( 458 كم ) تقريباً ، وعلى ارتـفـاع حـوالي ( 3400 قدم ) عـن مستوى سطح البحر ، وتـقـع على خـطي طول ( 46ْ - 48ْ ) شرقاً ، وخطي عرض ( 14ْ - 16ْ ) شمالاً ، وتحدها من الشرق محافظة حضرموت ، ومن الجنوب البحر العربي ، ومن الغرب أجزاء من محافظة مأرب ومحافظة أبين ومحافظة البيضاء ، ومن الشمال أجزاء من محافظة حضرموت ، ومحافظة مأرب وصحراء الربع الخالي .
السكان : يبلغ عــدد سكان محافظة شبوة حسب التعداد السكاني لعام ( 1994 م ) حــوالي " 375.541 " نسمة .
المناخ : يسود محافظة شبوة المناخ الصحراوي الحار صيفاً والمعتدل شتاءاً ويميل إلي البرودة أثناء الليل ، وتهطل الأمطار في فصلي الربيع والصيف .
التضاريس : تضم شبوة أراضي متنوعة التضاريس بين جبال وسهول وصحاري تمتد شمالاً باتجاه الربع الخالي وسواحل واسعة الأطراف على البحر العربي .
الصناعات الحرفية : تنتشر العديد من الصناعات الحرفية في مديريات محافظة شبوة مثل الحدادة وذلك لصناعة الفؤوس والسكاكين والجنابي ، بالإضافة إلي الأدوات الزراعية ويستخدم الكير والنفخ والطرق بأسلوب بدائي ، وصناعة المعاوز وهي صناعة نسيجية قديمة بدأت في مديرية الروضة بمحافظة شبوة التي تعتبر مركز لهذه الصناعات باستخدام الوسائل التقليدي]ة القديمة ، وصناعة الفضيات حيث يصنع من الفضة أنواع مختلفة من الحلي وهذه الصناعة متوارثة جيل بعد جيل .

ـ التسمية : اسم شبوة هو اسم لمدينة أثرية قديمة في أقصى غرب وادي حضرموت على أطراف مفازة صيهد ، وعلى أراضي محافظة شبوة قامت أقدم ثلاث عواصم لأقدم الدول اليمنية القديمة والتي لازالت بقاياها شامخة برغم مرور الزمن وتلك العواصم هي :
ـ " يهر" عاصمة مملكة أوسان ، وتقع إلى جهة الشرق من مديرية بيحان وإلى جهـة الشمال من محافظة شبوة .
ـ " شبوة القديمة " عاصمة مملكة حضرموت القديمة ، وتقع في أقصى غرب وادي حضرموت على أطراف مفازة صيهد ، في شمال شرق محافظة شبوة .
ـ " تمنع " عاصمة مملكة قتبان ، وتقع في وادي بيحان شمال غرب محافظة شبوة .
وعلى سواحل هذه المحافظة التي تشرف على البحر العربي كانت ميناء قنا القديمة التي تمثل أعظم موانئ العالم القديم حيث كانت تربط بين دول جنوب شرق آسيا ودول شرق أفريقيا بالحضارات التي كانت قائمة في بلاد ما بين النهرين وسوريا ومصر وبلاد اليونان والرومان ، عبر طريق القوافل التجارية البرية ، كما كانت تصدر منها أجود أنواع اللبان والطيوب اليمني إلى مراكز تلك البقاع التي كانت تستخدمه لأغراض طقوسية دينية في معابدها ، وقد ذكرها الهمداني في كتابه الصفة بقوله : " وفيما بين بيحان وحضرموت شبوة مدينة لحمير وأحد جبلي الملح بها والجبل الثاني لأهل مأرب ، ثم قال : فلما تحاربت حمير ومذحج خرج أهل شبوة من شبوة فسكنوا حضرموت وبهم سميت شبام وكان الأصل في ذلك شباه فأبدلت الميم بدل عن الهاء ، ويقصد الهمداني هنا بشبوة هي المدينة القديمة وذكره أن شبوة قد دمرت في الحروب ، فذلك ما تؤكده النقوش اليمنية القديمة وسنتناوله بالتفصيل عند الحديث عن موقع مدينة شبوة القديمة ، أمَّا ذكره بأن أهـل شبوة انتقلوا إلى شبام حضرموت وسميت بهم فذلك غير مؤكـد لأن اسـم مدينـة شبام

معروف في النقوش ( ش ب م م ) ولم يؤخذ من شبوة التي كانت تذكر في النقوش ( ش ب و ت )
كما ذكر الهمداني بقية أراضي ومدن محافظة شبوة والقبائل التي كانت تقطنها حيث ذكر :
- وادي مرخة : أولها عبرة وهي لبني لقيط من صُداء ، البجباجة لصُداء وادٍ كثير النخيل لبني شداد من صُداء وفيهم بطن يقال لهم بنو فرط دخيل ، حُزا لبني صُداء لبني شداد منهم ، لجية وادِ كثير النخل والعلوب لبني شداد ، والمشكان لبني شداد ، والمديد لبني سليم من صُداء ، خورة والحجر والجرباء لبني ذي معاهر من حمير ولقوم من صداء وبني ماوية فهذه هي مرخة وقبائلها عند الهمداني .
- عبدان : لبني عيذ الله من صُداء وحصنهم فيه معروف ، وبنو عيذ الله بن سعد العشيرة .
- جردان : وادٍ عظيم فيه قرى كثيرة لجُـف ، ويشبم وادٍ عظيم للإيزون من حمير ، وحجر بني وهب لبني عامر من كندة .
- بيحان : وأما بيحان فان لها طريقين : الصدارة وادٍ يهريق في بيحان منه شربهم ، وأهله الرضاويون من طي وهم من بني عبد رضا ، والثاني وادٍ آخر وسكان بيحان مراد إلى العطف ، وأسفل بيحان والعطف يسكنه المعاجل من سبأ ثم من وراء ذلك الغائط إلى مرخـة ، ورؤساء مراد بيحان آل المكرمان ، وهم الخساسات ويقال إن الخساسات من ولد الأشرس بن كندة ، وهم بيت أبن ملجم ، ولآل المكرمان شرف وسؤدد ومقام في مذحج ، تلك هي أهم المواضع التي ذكرها الهمداني في شبوة .
وشبوة هي المحافظة ومركزهـا الإداري عتـق ، وتشتهر بوديانها الخصبة الصالحة للزراعة، مثل : وادي جردان في المديرية الشرقية ، ووادي عين ووادي بيجان في المديرية الشمالية ، ووادي ميفعة في المديرية الجنوبية ، ووادي مرخة ووادي عبدان ووادي يشبم في المديرية الوسطى .
ـ الجبال والهضاب : أمَّا أشهر الجبال والهضاب فيها فهي سلسلة جبال الكور التي تفصل بينها وبين محافظة حضرموت ، وهضبة الشرورة ، وسطحها شبه مستوى ، وأغلب المناطق الشرقية للمحافظة هضاب ووديان واسعة ، والجزء الشمالي من المحافظة يعد جزءاً من صحراء الربع الخالي ، وعلى الأطـراف الجنوبيـة لهـذه الصحراء المترامية الأطراف قامت ممالك قوية لها حضارات عريقة ( أوسان ، حضرموت ، قتبان ) .
